Tour #QPN-0108: “BIRDING NORTHERN PERU FOR INCREDIBLE ENDEMICS AND SUPERB SPECIALTIES”

Tour 4-18 October 2008, Extension 19-24 October 2008

Birding northern Peru is most easily done from Ecuador. Flying into Quito and then a short flight to Loja gets us close to the Ecuador-Peru border. Birding south from Loja we cross the border at Macará and continue driving to Olmos, birding at various sites en route. Over the next two weeks we bird all the northern lowland zone including the Marañón Valley, ending where the Andes meets Amazonia at Tarapoto and then to the coastal site of Chiclayo. We overnight at several new birding lodges as well as at local hotels. The scenery is beautiful, the hospitality and birding are excellent. This tour covers dry forest Tumbesian as well as Marañón Valley biogeographic zones. For even more birding you can add 5 more days to visit the higher elevation sites around Cajamarca.

I. The Northern Peru Tour includes the zone of Olmos, Chiclayo, Jaen,

Bagua Grande, Pomacochas, Florida, Abra Patricia, Moyobamba, Tarapoto (15 days total)

II. The Cajamarca Higher Elevation Extension includes Cajamarca, Batan

Grande, Celendin, Leimebamba, Pomacochas (+5 days)
